York Bergin Maritime Professional &
Transportation Management
About

I am a native New Yorker with an ingrained desire to manage transportation and logistics, and a passion for the sea. Growing up splitting my time between Shelter Island and New York City fostered a unique balance of life experiences and skill sets that ultimately shaped the person who I am today. I was a child actor and print model, and was always aware and fascinated by public transportation options and management as I traveled with my mother between photo shoots, commercial sets, and auditions. I reveled in the ability to set sail and chart my own course to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I began skippering my first sailboat at the age of 7. Since then, sailing has brought me to some far flung corners of the globe, including Australia and most of the Caribbean. Every place that I’ve visited brings opportunities for growth as a professional mariner as well learning opportunities as a transportation manager. I’ve even taken the Trans-Mongolian branch of the Trans-Siberian Railroad from Beijing to Moscow as part of my lifelong study of transportation systems.Click here for my LinkedIn. Experience

I am currently employed by the New York City Department of Transportation as the Chief of Staff for the Ferry Division. I graduated from New York University’s School of Engineering with a Masters of Science in Transportation Management in January 2015. Prior to working for NYC Department of Transportation, I worked for NYC Parks & Recreation, The United States Merchant Marine Academy, and the United States Coast Guard.

I have a number of trade-specific certifications that enable me to function at a high level within the marine and transportation worlds. I hold a US Coast Guard Captain’s License, Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC), Royal Yachting Association 250 Ton Commercially Endorsed Yachtmasters License. My certifications include US Coast Guard Standards of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping (STCW’95), US Sailing Level 1, Level 2, & Basic Keelboat Instructor certificates, US Sailing Powerboating Instructor certification, Wilderness First Responder which includes First Aid, CPR & AED, and Level 1 Avalanche Responder certificate. I am also a Screen Actor’s Guild member.

Future

I am expanding my private consulting and services business rapidly. I am particularly adept as a consultant for the motion picture industry focusing on marine and transportation projects. I am also available to do yacht deliveries, as well as private sailing instruction or powerboat instruction.
